This device automates the drilling of a very small opening of approx. 0.3 – 0.5 mm in a plastic cap.
That this is done accurately is very important because the type of end product depends on this opening. The customer previously machined the caps by hand, this resulted in a larger margin of error and was labor intensive.
We therefore developed a drill that is user-friendly to adjust with an HMI system we developed. The operator simply enters a ‘recipe’ and the machine is automatically adjusted accordingly. This allows different sizes of drill bits to be drilled. This system also makes it easy for the customer to adjust the machine himself. To control the drilling process, we have added a Bronckhorst module that checks whether the size of the holes is correct via a flow/pressure system.
The result is impressive! Both Smart Automation and the customer are very satisfied with this beautiful solution. Meanwhile, we are working on the design of a second machine for this customer.
